Up With Books began 10 years ago when twin sisters, Paige and Ashley, wanted to share their love of reading and adventure by giving books to children who otherwise might not have access to their own.

What started as a small effort to support local children has grown into a program that now partners with schools, organizes fundraisers and grants, and shows up every Saturday at the Fitchburg food pantry to distribute books to kids who need them most.

As Up With Books grew, so did its relationship with Rollstone Bank & Trust.

About three years ago, after receiving a donation, the nonprofit was looking for a local bank to place funds into a CD. Convenience brought them through the doors. What they found was much more.

“It felt like going home,” the executive director shared. “Everyone stops what they’re doing and welcomes us. They’re so approachable, so kind. But this partnership extends far beyond banking services.”

Each year, Rollstone Bank & Trust employees volunteer with the organization, often closing the branch for a half or full day to help. Their biggest project supports 3,500 children with summer backpacks filled with eight new books per child to keep them reading through the school break.

As the nonprofit celebrates ten years, the mission remains the same: serve so well that one day the need no longer exists. Schools continue reaching out with students who want to join the program, and so far, they haven’t had to say no.

“We’re just trying to keep up,” the executive director says. “And Rollstone has been part of that growth.”

Ten years in, this is more than a customer relationship. It’s a shared commitment to community.
